Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 24th, 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, which took home their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals for the floor and team competitions, along with the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most recognized American gymnast at the Games. She also won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans who have won back-to-back gold medals from this event. Raisman was also awarded silver in the individual all-around and floor exercise. She is the third most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles, with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a part of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercise (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She also is the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and 2015.). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was the former gymnast from high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She has three children, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish community everywhere. "Raisman began gymnastics when was just 18 months old. She attributes her first love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. She then joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
